In 2005 the Stratford Hispanic Heritage Committee began celebrating and promoting the pride of Latino/Hispanic heritage in the Town of Stratford, CT. Their mission is to build cultural awareness, promote appreciation of Hispanic traditions embodied in art, music, literature and cultural history with educational events.
One of the main efforts of the Committee is to provide scholarships to deserving Latino/Hispanic students in Stratford planning to attend college. The recipients are students who have portrayed high academic standards, and who have displayed an interest in the Hispanic community. The Stratford Hispanic Heritage Committee started giving scholarships in 2009 along with the Carlos Prada Fund. In 2017 the Committee awarded 5,000, in 2018 $5,200, and in 2019 $6,750 to Students from both high schools. Totals scholarship recipients from 2009 – 2019 is (72) students ranging from - $125 - $700.
