Capital Community College cordially invites you to submit a proposal for our 2019 Black & Latino Males Summit on April 25, 2019 from 9am-3pm. Attached you will find the formal call for proposals, as well as contact info and instructions on how to submit. The Summit is an opportunity for individuals to engage in meaningful exchange centering the experiences of Black and Latino males in secondary and post-secondary education. Current high school and college students, community leaders and professionals are invited to attend. The goal of the summit is to promote postsecondary educational attainment of Black and Latino males, and offer culturally relevant strategies, information, and resources to better equip students for personal, academic and career success.
This year’s theme is “Rewriting Our Narrative (of the Black & Latino Male Identity).” Proposals should focus on the experiences of Black and Latino male students with an emphasis on one or more of the following topics:
- masculinity/male identity,
- career and professional development,
- entrepreneurship,
- retention, graduation and academic achievement,
- social and community engagement, and
- navigating academic and workplace spaces as males of color
We welcome presenters representing various groups, including high school juniors and seniors, 2-and 4-year college students, Pk-12 school administrators and educators, college professors, industry professionals and community members. Proposals should engage attendees across education levels and have direct relevance to the experiences of Black and Latino males in the U.S. secondary and post-secondary education systems.
Please share this invitation with your colleagues and students, and invite them to join us on April 25th (9am - 3pm).
