NPRDC’s 2021 Scholarship Program: Applications Now Being Accepted

March 2, 2021, New York City - The Puerto Rican National Parade

(NPRDP) is already accepting applications for its 2021 National Scholarship Program.

For the fourth consecutive year, the program will award 100 scholarships of $ 2,000, for a total of $ 200,000, to exceptional students of Puerto Rican descent who are making a difference in their communities. Applicants must be high school ( high school) graduates or full-time college students in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year (freshman, sophomore, or junior, respectively). 

"We are very excited to launch the 2021 NPRDP Scholarship Program to continue the support we have provided to students in our community as they embark on their higher education journey," said Louis Maldonado, Chairman of the NPRDP Board of Directors. . "Last year, students representing 16 states and Puerto Rico participated, and we are striving to increase our youth participation even more." 

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be of Puerto Rican descent;
  • Have a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or better, or the equivalent high school grade;
  • Be a high school graduate student or be enrolled in college (freshman to junior levels), between the ages of 17 to 25;
  • Be enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year university (required for current college students);
  • Have a history of volunteer work or community service;
  • Participate in an interview with member (s) of the Selection Committee.

Scholarship winners in previous years may reapply, as long as they meet the other eligibility requirements. 


Students can visit www.nprdpinc.org and complete the scholarship application.

The completed application form and academic transcripts must be delivered on or before Friday, April 16, 2021. Letters of recommendation should be sent by email to scholarships@nprdpinc.org or by postal mail to National Puerto Rican Day Parade , PO Box 975, New York, NY 10272. Materials submitted after this date will result in disqualification of the candidate. 

Scholarship applications must contain: the completed application form, an essay, a written biography, two letters of recommendation (one of which must come from the place where the student is volunteering); official academic transcripts and a photo. Letters of recommendation should be sought from teachers, counselors, mentors, community and religious leaders, and others. Letters should highlight the candidate's voluntary community service, the longevity of the candidate's relationship, and the candidate's unique contributions to the community.
