Reading is the key to school success. One good way to encourage reading is to give a child their very own book. On September 2nd each first grade student who enters a Bridgeport public school will be presented with a copy of Crazy Hair Day written and illustrated by Barney Saltzberg. The books are being presented as a gift from the Bridgeport Public Education Fund. Only students who are in school on First Day will receive a book. The books may be taken home or left in school.
We need you to greet first grade students on September 2nd at 10:00 AM. When you arrive at the classroom you should introduce yourself, congratulate the first graders for coming to school, distribute the books to the students, have the students write their name on the bookplate, and spend a few minutes reading the book to them. Please urge them to read each day.
Deadline to sign up is August 17th.
