AVP Celebrates 40 Years of Creative Productions

The year was 1984 and the VHS camcorder was all the rage and Frank Borres was an award-winning broadcast journalist. The News 12 Cablevision reporter at the time took the new videotape technology and started American View Productions (AVP).

Originally it was a part time event videotaping business, recording and photographing hundreds of weddings and events up until the end of his stint as a public relations officer with a Bridgeport Bank. In the 1990s it turned into a full-time creative agency producing videos as well graphic design and printed pieces for clients. In the mid 90s AVP started the Borres Productions arm which then created award winning documentaries and TV shows for public television (PBS).

Free Saturdays at Beardsley Zoo for Bridgeport Residents!

​Every Saturday until June 29, 2024, the Zoo will be free to all Bridgeport residents as part of the Zoo's COOL BLUE Bridgeport program.​

Southern Connecticut State University presents a conversation with singer, songwriter, and cultural icon Gloria Estefan on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the John Lyman Center for the Performing Arts.

Estefan, a seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer, as well as an actress and businesswoman, is known for her contributions to Latin music and her impact on pop culture. Born in Havana, Cuba, and immigrating to Miami, Florida, as a child, she grew up immersed in that city’s vibrant music scene. She rose to international fame as the lead vocalist of the Miami Sound Machine, with hits like “Conga,” “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” and “Anything for You.”

Throughout her illustrious career, Estefan has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time, and one of the most successful Latin crossover artists in music history according to Billboard Magazine. Beyond her musical achievements, she is a successful actress, author, and philanthropist. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to music and culture, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Kennedy Center Honors.
