1940. That’s when we opened our first “branch” in Bridgeport – right in the General Electric Code & Wire plant on the East Side of Bridgeport.
77 years later you know us as GE Credit Union. Bridgeport is still our home – in fact, we have 2 houses! Downtown Lafayette and Beardsley Park and our doors are open to everyone who lives, works, studies, volunteers or worships in Bridgeport.
We are proud to partner with GBLN and be an active part of the community. Credit Unions are founded on the 7 cooperative principles:
- Voluntary Membership
- Democratic Member Control
- Members’ Economic Participation
- Autonomy and Independence
- Education,Training and Information
- Cooperative Among Cooperatives
- Concern for the Community.
These principles define who we are and our purpose and can be summed up in the following statement that I know will mirror the beliefs of GBLN:
“These seven principles are founded in the philosophy of cooperation and its central values of equality, equity and mutual self-help. They express, around the world, the principles of human development and the brotherhood of man through people working together to achieve a better life for themselves and their community.”
