A message from the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County:
Are there projects that you would like to see in your town that would increase the livability of a particular neighborhood, or part of downtown, and expand equality and accessibility? Imagine engaging and working with a team of town planners, other citizens, local artists, architects, transportation, school, or health officials to create a more attractive “place” to live, to improve a building, a troublesome intersection or to spark the rejuvenation of a part of town crying out for attention?
The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County invites you to a brainstorming session at the HSW Building, 1115 Main Street, Bridgeport, Wed. Dec. 6, 7:30-9:30pm. We are looking for grassroots ideas, issues and thoughts that you could hash out with others in town to prepare for a conference we are planning, along with ArtPlace America and the Our Town Funding Program of the National Endowment for the Arts and other partners.
We are looking to gather committed stakeholders in Bridgeport that are ready to develop an exciting project and join us for a conference and workshop on “Creative Placemaking,” January 23-24 at Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk. The goal of the conference, Shaping Community, is to convene cross-sector teams from each of the 15 towns in our region to collectively discover, listen, learn, and articulate meaningful and relevant projects across a range of urban opportunities and issues.
We request committed delegations of between 6 and 10 people from each town by December 31. Prior to the January conference, each group will commit to complete modest background reading and research and explore initial project ideas generated via dialogue among diverse voices in each town. At the conference, your delegation will participate in discussions about the impact of arts and culture on our urban fabric and sense of place, and hone your top ideas into an effective grant proposal.
To prepare for the January conference, we invite you to join us at this brainstorming session. Please come with ideas, questions, and an open mind. Let’s discover what creative placemaking means for you and your town!
To keep track of numbers, please RSVP here if you plan to come.
Many Thanks
