Calling the 2019 forecast "sunny and inviting," Fodor's Travel Guide listed "enchanted isle" of Puerto Rico on its Go List.

"With rebuilding comes opportunity, and Puerto Rico is making the most of theirs in the wake of fall 2017’s devastating hurricanes," Fodor's writes. "Capital city San Juan mostly bounced back in time for winter’s peak-travel season, as did beach towns like Condado and Isla Verde. All are enjoying new and renovated hotel and restaurant openings and welcoming travelers back with open arms."

The prestigious travel guide said its historic tours, sailing trips, kayaking in San Juan Bay, Bacardi Distillery mixology lessons, and Farjado’s bioluminescent-bay excursions "have rebounded in full force."

The writer points to a lively scene near the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in Santurce. There, La Placita market serves as a food and nightlife hub, flanked by renowned restaurants like Jose Enrique and Santaella.

Don't wait for winter. Spring weather is pure paradise on the island, and Atlantic hurricane season (June to November) means good deals.

Other destinations on the Go List include Merida, on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula; and Lagos, Nigeria.
